So here's the helm 2.0! I threw this helm together in 2 nights and a days work
The picture on the upper left is a comparison of the old helm versus the new helm, guess which one is the new one? (hint; its the one that looks damn sexy) The lower left picture is a close up of the new helm, and the picture on the right was me showing that IT FITS PRAISE RAPTOR JESUS!!!
After spending about a week trying to sand out the old helm to just try to get it to fit and seeing the helmet become more and more deformed in the process I finally gave up when the large end of the crest snapped off for the 3rd time. I glued it back on and put a thin coat of fiberglass I had left over from fiberglassing the new helm and I'll be using it to test painting techniques, the weight difference between the old helm and the new helm is amazing too! the old helm weighs like 5-10 pounds, but it is a solid helm, could easily kill someone with a headbutt with it if I was trying. The new helm only has about 2 coats of fiberglass on it and I'm going to be putting on at least one more to cover up some fillings I did just before these pictures were taken. The new helm weighs 2-3 pounds, but I'm not as happy with how strong it is, like I said though, I'm adding at least one more coat of fiberglass, I just don't want to run into someone and break my helmet at a con. I'm really proud of my progress today, last night I finished folding the paper-craft of the helm just before bed, then I got up and fiberglassed the whole thing, I would've gotten more done but I ran out of paint brushes I could use, I need to go to the dollar store and pick up some more, I'll probably pick them up on Monday and begin work again, I'm hoping to get to paint soon, but shape is more important so I'm not going to rush.
